Inspired by The New York Times report
of soaring bee deaths in 2012, America’s “National Beekeeper” is
embarking on a heroic mission to save the bees. Darren Cox—who was
awarded the prestigious title by the American Honey Producers
Association earlier this year—says his first step will be stopping
colony collapse disorder. "This winter (we experienced) the largest
die-off of bees ever in the history of the United States,” Cox reported.
The fourth-generation beekeeper seems well equipped for the task,
currently running 5,000 hives across the nation.
